LASEK / PRK

LASEK (Laser epithelial Keratomileusis) or PRK (photorefractive Keratomileusis) can treat Myopia up to 8 diopters and Astigmatism up to 5 diopters on the cornea. The surface layer (epithelial layer) is loosened using a 20% alcohol solution. the epithelial layer is then moved to the side (LASEK) or completely removed (PRK). The Excimer laser will apply the correction in a fast and safe manner.

The procedure will take between 20 and 40 seconds (dependent on the correction needed). During this time, an infrared eye tracker system will register every little movement and guide the laser in real-time accordingly.

The prophylactic use of mitomycin helps in preventing scar formation on the cornea. After 2-4 days, the initial pain will improve and vision get slightly better. The full recovery of the vision can take between 2-4 weeks. Despite the excellent safety and results, re-treatment is possible if needed.
