EDTA-Abrasio

For cosmetic reasons or if bothered by foreign body sensation, the chalk (Band-Keratopathy) can be removed. The procedure consists of removing the epithelial layer and removing the chalk with a chemical agent (EDTA). Most of the time, an intermittent use of a hockey blade to remove harder parts is necessary. The full surgery will last about 45 minutes and it is very important to remove the particles completely. Otherwise, new calcium and phosphate will be bound to the remaining parts and the band-keratopathy will re-appear. Postoperatively, we do recommend that you use only phosphate-free drops (List here) for longterm treatments
